WHO AM I?
The Ultimate
Knowledge for Lasting Happiness
Solving the
Problem that does not exist.
Our Comfort Zone.
Time
and again this question, “Who am I” may come up in many, especially when they enter
the middle age. Its intensity increases as those persons become older, but the
final or the (only) answer seems to be not in reach. It eludes like the
horizon, the nearer you are, the farther it recedes. Of course, it does not
mean that this question comes to all the people because many are sure of
themselves as Mr./Ms. So and So, son/ daughter of …., occupying important chair
in profession, earning enough or plenty,
children doing well etc. For them there is no time or mental frame for
such a question like,
Who am I?
How
valid is this question regarding one’s very identity ‘who am I?’
The
usual thinking of anyone is, as Mr./Ms. so and so, with all that one knows all
along.
Then,
has this very familiar information about you, made you feel complete,
comfortable or you feel that there is something still wanting in you that you
need to get at?
Has
this feeling about you, made you stop your search for more and more of
something or other- better, say, colour, more or less weight, better hair
style, more money, better house etc.?
Are
you comfortable with all that has made you see yourself now as you are or are
you still on the lookout for ways of changing things and people around you to
your expectation so as to get into the comfort zone?
Do
you spend your time in peace and happiness or expect Santa Clause to come one
day when all will be the way you have been aspiring to be happy ever thereafter?
Let
us see if we get some answer to these questions.
2. Happiness
we all look for is not external.
Your
search for happiness free of limitations is never ending search because the more
and more you get your wants met, you still feel something more wanting
somewhere in the corner of your mind.
The
2 BHK apartment you got with great excitement is no longer that source of joy
with all its limitations of space, ventilation, neighbourhood etc. Thus begins
the search for 3BHK.
Same
wanting feelings persist with your car, jewellery, money, expectations from
your relatives, friends and all others, also of all things around you.
You
sold your car because you are fed up with its look, mileage and old brand. But
the person who got your car is happy and goes for celebration because he now
got a car to go to office, take his family out and also show to his neighbour
who was always irritating you with his car. Thus the car as an object was a cause for sorrow in one who wanted to
get rid of it, while the same car became the source of great joy to another for
his own reasons.
Car
is the same. It is your perception towards the car that either gives happiness
or sorrow. Objects that you loved some
time back or the persons you had fancy earlier do not evoke the same feelings
in you with the passage of time.
Further, when many things continue
remain wanting and all your irritations persists in life, you do feel happy-
When
you hear that favourite melody of yours, see your chosen comedian on the
screen, at the beach in a summer evening when cool breeze comes from the sea
side and so on.
No one greets another for being
sorrowful nor condoles for being happy.
We all look for happiness only and
that happiness is not in any object or person or situation etc., but it is
innate in us;
Happiness is I, YOU, our true nature.
How? Let us see that.
3. Born with ignorance of the world.
When
we are born we had no idea of the world around us. We learnt everything from
our parents, elders, relations, teachers and friends of ours. We try to
overcome to some extent our limitations with the help of these persons, from
the surrounding influences and from prayer to the Almighty now and then. Yet
there are many things I need to know still to overcome my limited knowledge of
this world. After all these hip hops I
am tired of these hunts, with age catching up. Still I am trying get out of
this ignorance of external world without any success because the more I try to
know, the more I know that my knowledge is incomplete. My children and
grandchildren know how to handle the iPhone, manage internet, Facebook etc. I have no way of mastering all the
knowledge in this world around me at this age! There is a saying that what I know is handful while what I need to know
to as big as this Universe!!
4. Why is this knowledge of the world
incomplete?
We
are all endowed with five senses; Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue and Skin for the
purpose of knowing Forms & colours, Sound, Smell, Taste and Sense of Touch.
All these five senses are meant to
capture their respective stimuli from external world around us. They are GIVEN
and not made by you and me. They do carry out their designated roles
faithfully. I, the subject, get the knowledge of this world through the sight,
hearing, smell, taste and touch. While all senses other that the sense of
touch has a specific location rightly so, the sense of touch is all over the
body obviously to protect us from any problem from all over us. Thus wherever
these senses can reach, directly or through instruments, we gather information
which becomes the knowledge as true as the object sensed. Using these senses we
get knowledge which may be direct or indirect, through the means of perception,
inference, by examples, by non-presence of an object etc.
Wherever
these senses cannot reach to gather the stimuli in their respective spheres,
with or without instruments of support, we remain ignorant of those aspects of
life. Thus our knowledge gets limited by the reach of the senses.
The ‘I’ is the one who gets the
knowledge from these senses, which are all the objects of my knowledge.
Simply put, there are two things only
in this world, I the subject and the rest, the objects.
5. What are the objects of this
subject ‘I’?
I
see the table – Table is the object of
my sight like many other objects seen
on day to day
basis.
I
hear the music – Music is the object of
hearing, one of many in life.
I
taste the coffee – Taste of coffee is
the object of tongue for sense of taste.
I
touch the flower and find it fresh – freshness
of flower is the object
of touch for the skin.
I
smell the rose – the fragrance of rose
is the object of nose.
The
information we gather through these five senses in everyday life gives us the
knowledge of the objects of the external world around us to the subject, I. In
the process our ignorance of the world comes down to that extent, to make our
life practicable.
While
the senses enable me to know the objects that I come across in life, am I sure
that the subject I which receives all these knowledge is the body, mind, sense
complex that I have?
6. At birth we have twin ignorance
Viz., of the world and of I.
Now
let us find out something about this aspect.
Whose
pen is in your pocket? It is my pen. Mine.
Whose
house you live? It is my house. Mine.
Whose
shirt you are wearing? It is my shirt. Mine. And so on.
From
these answers it is evident that
you are not the pen, house or shirt
etc. These are all yours. Not you.
You
stretch the hand. Whose hand it is? It
is my hand. Mine.
With
whose tongue you taste the tea? It is with my tongue. Mine.
Whose
ears receive this talk?
It is my ears. Mine.
Whose
mind is worried that this talk will go on and on? It is my mind. Mine.
Whose
body is sitting here now? It is my body. Mine.
Thus you can continue saying – my
eyes, my legs etc. Mine is not you, it is yours. All that you know from the five senses are
OBJECTS of I. Hence when you see your body, touch your body, smell your body
(With Axe perfume) etc., when you find that your mind is restless now or happy
now etc., this complex made of body, mind senses are also yours like pen, house, shirt etc. and not you.
Then who am I?
Let us do this exercise. Please close your eyes. Visualise objects that I mention which
become evident to you.
Table,
chair, plane, train, car, bus, shirt, mango, banana, consciousness, Postage
stamp, Sun, Moon, vada pav, ice-cream, sugar, consciousness, coconut, bread,
bun, roti, rice, wheat, 5 rupee coin, Consciousness, fridge, cooker, hot plate. Now tell me what are
things that could not be evident to you, the I.
Answer:
Is it Consciousness? If yes,
Table
is evident to you in the consciousness. Table
consciousness IS.
Chair
is evident to you in the consciousness. Chair consciousness IS.
Sun
is evident to you in the consciousness. Sun
consciousness IS.
My
body, mind sense complex is evident to me. Body,
mind, sense complex
Consciousness
is.
Table, chair, house, the body, mind,
complex and the world around us become evident because of the presence of
Awareness, Consciousness, this I, as objects of I.
7. Nature of I, Consciousness.
You
never say, I exist because somebody else told you so. Or by someone telling you
that you don’t exist, you don’t cease to be so. You exist and this is evident
to you always. You don’t need anyone to tell you about your existence, that is
the existence of I, Awareness, Consciousness. Thus, I, you, consciousness, is thus self-evident.
This I, consciousness, is ever
present, never out of your mind. The mind may be there or not as it may keep moving
from something or the other. The
consciousness is present in all the three states of our experience such as
waking, dreaming and deep sleep. It is because of the presence of I,
consciousness even in deep sleep when the mind is also not present, I am able
to say that I had a deep sleep.
As
we now know that the beginning with this body, mind, sense complex, everything
outside this body in the universe becomes evident to us because of the
existence of the Consciousness, we can safely conclude it to be the cause for
all objects and of the very world around us. All these exist in the
consciousness, as a witness and it is not in itself a party to any of these.
Consciousness does not function, it
simply is.
8. What is this body then?
When
I is Consciousness, Awareness, what then is this physical system of body, mind,
sense complex?
It has got an identity viz a name,
form, background; position in the world around
it a location and a time frame. Mr.Gopal married to Ms.Geetha, is a post
graduate, working in a MNC in Dehradun. He is the father of a daughter and a
son, who are studying at Bangalore, with his in laws there.
Now
let us see what this Gopu is. He is son of his parents, in middle age, father
of two children, husband of his wife, son-in-law to his FIL, MIL, BIL etc.,
employee to his company, employer to his servants at home, a boss/subordinate
at office, devotee when he worships his deity, owner of flat
at
Hyderabad, neighbour of his official quarters at Dehradun and so on. These are
then some of the many roles of Gopu in that body, mind, sense complex.
All these roles are played by the
same person in the course of his existence. To this Gopu, body, mind, sense
complex is, I, as he has known ever since his birth. Why is this notion in him?
Is Gopu the only one to think like that?
We know that there are many talented
artists who put up very convincing roles on the stage, say, of a begging person
or of a great King.
For our understanding, let us call
the actor as A and the role B.
The
actor (A) being highly talented, plying
the role of a begging person (B), cries so well that most of the audience are
touched to that level that they they are in tears. The actor on the stage
notices this through his glances and pats himself, proud of his performance as
a begging person. When the play is over his close friends and the director of
the play congratulates him for crying so convincingly and he smiles, gets into
his SUV and drives off.
In
the other play where the actor (A) plays the role of a King (B), he is so
pompous and proud that he gets a standing ovation from the audience. After the play, this actor collects his fees
from the office standing in the queue along with his fellow actors, catches the
bus to his house 20km away.
Both
the actors after playing their roles effectively got back to their true state
at the end of the show. The begging person did not go to the bus stand to beg
for bus fare, nor the King continued in his role clamouring ‘who is there,
bring my chariot, I have to go my palace to lunch with Maharani!’
As
a seasoned actor (A) played the roles in the best possible way, all along
knowing he is only playing the roles (B) of the begging person/ king. In the
first case, the actor (A) knows that he is not a begging person (B), but the
begging person (B) is he in the play. Likewise in the second role actor (A)
knows that he is not the king (B), but the king (B) is he. A is not B, but B is
A.
There is no pot without clay. Pot
depends upon clay. But clay is independent of pot. Clay can exist without pot,
while other way it is not possible. The relationship between clay and pot is
that of cause and effect.
In the same way, these roles one
plays only because of and in the presence of Consciousness and in its absence
there is no role to the body, mind sense complex. The latter can be functional
and depends completely on the Consciousness to play the roles in life. Thus Consciousness becomes the cause and the rest from body, mind,
sense complex onwards, the entire world around it, are its the effects.
There is no dissociation between I,
the consciousness and the body, mind, sense complex. In fact the distance
between, I, the consciousness, and any object, be it your body, mind, sense
complex, your pen or Moon or Stars or Sun, it is zero!
Unfortunately, our Gopu, the actor of
real life, while playing many roles is unable to know this aspect of life. All
the time he either gloats over his achievements or grieves about his
misfortunes. He is mostly in sorrow for his plight in life while his erstwhile class
mates in college are much better off in their life. Sometimes he is happy too when his children
do well in studies, his better- half gives a good lunch packet or when his boss
appreciates in a rare gesture (!) his success in the target achievement.
All
these perpetual struggles between occasional happiness and perennial sorrow is
due to his complete identification with this body, mind, sense complex as I.
This ignorance of I, which is from his birth is not confined to our Gopu only.
This ignorance of oneself is universal, true of all human beings.
Perhaps,
that is the reason why we all never think on the fact all along that there
could be a true identity for this I, which is not the body, mind, sense
complex.
9. How to know the truth of I?
We
have seen that the ignorance that we all had at birth is not only of the
external world but also of, who am I, because we identify ourselves wrongly
with body, mind, sense complex as the I. This is due the fact that our senses
are driven outwards, sending to us only external stimuli to the mind based
which our life moves and our ignorance of the world comes down too. There is no
opportunity to know the truth of this I, which is the Consciousness, as WITNESS
of the myriad roles the body, mind, sense complex plays.
That means we need a different
source, other than the senses, to get the true knowledge of I, simultaneously get
rid of the ignorance of I. That source has to be from outside, say from a
teacher who knows what I is.
There are three important aspects in
our getting knowledge of an object.
a)
The knowledge that you get is as true as
the object, no mutilation is possible. When you see a rose, you get the
knowledge of rose, not of jasmine.
b)
There is no role for your will in
the knowledge that senses give from the external objects. The will operates only when some action is involved. If you want to
pluck the rose, your will comes into play. It may say, go ahead or put a brake,
depends on your propensities.
C)
The knowledge that you get from one
source, say, the eye, cannot be verified by the other four senses.
In same way, this true knowledge of
I, which all these five senses could never give till now in one’s life so far
but gained from an outside source, say a teacher, through the words employed by
him, can never be verified by the five senses.
When
one receives those words through one’s mind as a thought, this thought in the
mind makes one knows once and for all that one’s CONSCIOUSNESS is true I.
These words become the means of knowledge;
this is the new source sending the truth to the mind as a thought to be owned
by for your life time. You can never stumble upon it accidentally.
Therefore, for acquisition of this
knowledge of I, through a source, other the five senses, the will has no role.
If the will is brought in as the process of learning goes on, then that person
gets only his own perceptions of I. He is unable to let the fresh knowledge to
sink in him. But once the earning takes place, it can never leave him. In some it may still be a
subject of more study, exposure to those who know the truth before
confirmation. In many, the wrong notion
held unquestioned for a life time cannot go overnight. By listening to the
words from an external source, a change process has been initiated, till he
gets commitment to this knowledge.
10. This I, is not limited by time,
space, or objects.
Consciousness,
I, is not limited by time. Time is not
aware of consciousness, it is the other way. It is the Consciousness in one
that is aware of time.
You
don’t acknowledge time in deep sleep. You find the time you slept from the
clock- Went to sleep at 10pm, woke up at 7am. Slept for 9 hours!
The time sense itself is not the same
all time.
In an interesting film, the time flies off. The 2 hours appear far less! A
boring talk drags the time, one hour looks like a day! Waiting for the loved one at the park, the
time looks to hang!
In the absence of consciousness,
there is no time. An inert substance has no time. The time gets its existence
only because of consciousness, I and it is free from time limitation.
Same way, consciousness is not in
space.
Space and objects exist in consciousness. A
potter does not make the pot first and then puts space into it. Pot space,
the space it occupies, was present before pot was made, is present when pot is
in existence and will remain when pot ceases to exit. Likewise, consciousness ever exits before,
during and after any object comes into being, such as a body of a human being
or animal or plants. The space exists in
Consciousness. It is bigger than the biggest, smaller that the smallest. Thus,
Consciousness does not depend on space; it is free of space limitation.
Consciousness is also free of
objects. In the absence consciousness, there is no
object present for that body, mind sense complex or for that matter to any
insentient substance. All objects exist in consciousness, which is not
limited by objects too. That means, I, the Consciousness, is free of time,
space and objects, so infinite.
11. Gain from this knowledge that I,
is, in fact the Self-evident, Consciousness.
Everyone always thinks that one is
limited in all aspects of life. Life time is finite. He or she occupies limited
space in the body, mind sense complex and all other persons/objects of this
world are different from him/her, hence may pose a threat to safety and
security. Happiness,
wealth, opportunities for progress etc., are all limited. So there is a never
ending search for more and more of every one of these. This truth that I, consciousness, is not limited in any way in life, enables
one open a new chapter in one’s life.
Now
that I know, I, the consciousness, is not of limited life span, not confined to
the space occupied by this body, mind sense complex. All objects depend on me
for their existence.
What a revelation! What a relief!
What more benefit one wants apart from this knowledge that one is Unlimited in
all aspects one has been all along thinking, causing him to search for freedom from
those limitations. We have now that freedom of being unlimited in time, space
and objects.
The right definition of Truth is that
one which is free of time, space and objects. That one which exists in all the
three periods of time, at all places of this universe and in all objects is the
Truth. Thus, I, is the Truth, the only
truth. Further, the unlimited nature of I, consciousness, is not from only
now, but from birth and will ever remain so.
This
knowledge gives me the truth of my being ever present, at all places, in all
objects, I am freed from all the complex emotions I had/have because of
identifying me as this body, mind, sense complex all along.
12. The I Problem never existed.
At
this stage, it may be clear that, this I, the consciousness has been present from
the beginning of this life and that it has not come to me when got the
knowledge of it through these words spoken now. But the ignorance of I existed
till now because our means of knowledge with the senses, directed outward,
could never remove this till now, with their focus on the world outside.
Like
in other means of knowledge, like in senses, the knowledge one gets through the
words spoken now, the will has no play. It only needs application and
commitment to know the truth of I. There is no other way of getting out of this
ignorance of I as one can never stumble upon it by one self.
13. Free will of human beings.
We
are called sentient beings, animate, having this consciousness, awareness
unlike the rock, wood etc., which lack this awareness; hence the latter are
insentient, inanimate objects of the world. Human beings, as also plants and
animals etc., are all animate.
The
difference between human beings and the others like animals and plants is that
while we have the free will, the rest do not have luxury of free-will. Animals,
plants etc., are pre-programmed to take care of their basic needs of birth,
growth, propagation of species, survival etc. So they operate in that limited
sphere, don’t have complex like, I am tall, small, black, crooked horns, short
tail and so on. So nothing wrong is associated when an ass kicks a man from its
hind legs, as in its reckoning the person coming close to it may harm!
But
the same is not the position of a man kicking another as he has, apart from
awareness, is also endowed with free will. In so doing he develops his own
options based his likes and dislikes. This choice is responsible for all things
on this earth to be good, bad or ugly. There is one more dimension to human
behaviour. All human beings are GIVEN
the Universal Values of behaviour which is in born, not given to him by any
individual. That is generally called, the Golden Rule of Ethics. Do not harm
anyone, or steal others property or speak lie etc., as I don’t like to be
harmed, my property taken by another or others should not lie to me and so on.
Do unto
others what you want others do to you.
14. Is it that I have lost my
identity as so and so?
No,
that identity associated with the body, mind, sense complex is there and it
enabled you to get this knowledge. There
is no question of disowning it.
Only change of attitude is warranted. Look at the body, mind, sense complex, not with a sense of ownership.
You are its Managing Trustee, take care of it well to stay healthy, active
and use for having the right perspective of life. Follow the universal values which are inborn in you.
Let
us remember that when we were born, we brought nothing with us to last for our
life time. Everything we have is
GIVEN right from our parents, home,
living conditions based that parentage, growth, career as per those efforts,
family, relations, friends for life style you have, all the food that you need
and so on. We had all these years been a consumer. Look at all these as
Managing Trustee without any sense of ownership. This will turn you to be a
Contributor to the society henceforth. That distinguishes us from animals,
thus maturing to be a useful member of this society. Managing Trustee is the
best attitude that saves from many sorrow of life.
15. Shakespeare on one’s life,
playing roles.
“All the world is a stage,
And all men women merely players:
They have their exits and their
entrance;
And one man in his time plays many
parts,
His acts being
seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and
puking in the nurse’s arms.
And then the
whining school- boy, with his satchel
And shining
morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly
to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like
furnace, with a woeful ballard
Made to his
mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange
oaths and bearded like a pard,
Jealous in
honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the
bubble reputation
Even in
cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round
belly with good capon lined,
With eyes
severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise
saws and modern instances;
And so he plays
his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean
and slipper’s pantaloons,
With spectacles
on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful
hose, well saves, a world too wide
For his shrunk
shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again
toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in
his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this
strange eventful history,
Is second
childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth,
sans eyes, sans taste, sans evetything.
William Shakespeare – (from As You Like it, 2/7 )
While
such observations tell us to look at this life as a play and us as actors, one
still wonders how to do so. That is answered in knowing, ‘Who am I’. Only we
need to practise what we learn based on who am I, in real life.
16. Life is a long dream.
No one can remember the night dream one had the previous a
few hours later in the day, definitely not those dreams of last week, last
month etc. In the dream, you enjoyed the bonanza of winning a lottery for Rs.
One Crore or suffered the loss of
something you valued dear. What a disappointment to that the gain of Rs.One
Crore did not come to you when woke up or the heavy loss in share market was a
non-existent loss. Any gain or loss in
the dream is all transient and can never have any impact in your life.
Now look at this very life. We have
no knowledge of what we were say 100 years before. This life is also like a
dream, a
long one at that, only to be forgotten sometime or other, being finite in its
nature.
So look at this life’s events too,
dispassionately. Don’t lose your heart, jump with joy or slump into sorrow. Not that one should be
indifferent to it. Look at the event with a certain amount dispassion.
17. Results of action come from
several factors.
As one with freewill, you have the
choice of action out of many options that may be before you. You choose based
your preferences. Let us also remember that your efforts alone do not produce
results for your actions. There is the ACT of GOD, the environment, circumstances at
that point of time and your own background, health, attitude etc., cause the
outcome. The result of effort may be as
you expected, more than what you expected, less than what you expected or
opposite to what you expected. Your knowledge that you are playing roles
and you are not limited by time, space or objects comes handy to accept the
result that comes with equanimity. Taking that the result of your efforts flow
from various hidden factors too, apart from your efforts is
accepting
the presence of the Giver of all that you have in this life, the Almighty in
your life. That attitude is a must for peaceful living.
18. There is no place for Guilt or
Hurt.
Stop
grieving all the time of your life in GUILT and HURT. Guilt comes out of your own omissions and commissions in life. Hurt
comes from others omissions and commissions.
Know the truth that you are in fact
the Consciousness, a witness to all the roles you play. Then you are free
of being the actual doer of actions or
enjoyer of their results, in strict sense of the term. You are in fact witness
of all these events that the body, mind, complex goes through. Remember that we
brought nothing when we came here. Food , air, this earth that you use, Sun,
Moon, water, fire and so on, all that you need for your day to day life are
given to you , for free. Be grateful to that
Giver. Play these roles in keeping with the inborn Universal Values you are
endowed with.
As a person, the body mind, sense
complex plays many roles, but this I, consciousness, remains unaffected, the
witness, never identifies with these roles. Knowing the true nature of I is
Consciousness, Knowledge, not limited by space, time and objects, therefore I
is ever the Ananda, Happiness and we need to reorient our idea of this life.
This is the path for lasting happiness in life.
19. Look at life objectively.
You see a mountain and you are quite
comfortable at the sight. So is the case when you are at the sight of a river
bank, the Sun rise/ Sun set, the full Moon, a flower garden, a rose, jasmine or
lily. Why? Such sight does not evoke the
usual demanding person in you. Instead you take these for what these are and
enjoy the experience.
What happens at home; you expect the
members of the family to be what you want them to be. In your mind their activities are
pre-programmed. Any deviation gives rise to emotions of hurt, anger, etc. Often
you blame yourself too for their failures, guilty.
This is true of any place, be it a market, work place, visit to or
of a relative or friend etc. More negative emotions like jealousy,
pride, over-lordship etc., are also not uncommon. All these are due to our
habit being demanding persons from all around for some reason or other. The
reasons may be for their good, for your own pleasures or for any unknown reason-
habitual. Yet you keep stirring up the demanding person in you by being
subjective. This is the sure way to misery to you and all to those around you.
There is a way out of this singular
problem in life. Learn to accept your father and mother as they are and stop
wanting them to be different. You can never settle your account with parents; they are
given to as they are. If there is anything basically needing correction in
them, (which at best is only your opinion, from your stand point and it may be
right or wrong) prays, prayer is also action; it will have its effects.
When
you are stuck in life with situations warranting change, try your best with all
good intensions. If you are able to succeed in changing, that is excellent. If
not, don’t switch into negative emotions. Accept the same, without continuing
to be a demanding person. Also pray for
them to Almighty for their good. Prayer
also is action. Pray also for giving
you the discretion to know what you can change and what you cannot.
20. Living Intelligently.
Expectation
arising out from the demanding person is the main cause for disappointments and
consequent sorrow. Further, being
judgemental is the oft repeated path of all, destroying one’s peace and
tranquillity. Free yourself of the wrong habit of expectation, and accept
the results as coming from the Almighty because of the various hidden factors
for any result, then you gain the ever eluding PEACE OF MIND, the mighty source
of happiness in life.
Avoid
that habit of being the demanding person and that is to be objective in life.
Live in the knowledge that this universe itself gets its existence from YOU,
the consciousness and not the other way viz., you are not dependent on this
universe. Objectivity is not passive
acceptance of persons and situations. It is based on the truth of I and also
keeping in mind that Almighty is always a factor in one’s life. Not
invoking Almighty while you need help is not intelligent living. It amounts to
be like the proverbial stone on the way side carrying the loads of every other
wayfarer, crying foul.
21. Thumb Rule for living in
Happiness:
Live a life of least disturbance to
others. This saves you from GUILT that you keep getting every now and then.
Live a life of least disturbed by
others. You are then free of coming into situation which gives you HURT day in
day out. This needs more understanding of your true self.
Is
it possible?
By knowing that all sorrows in life
come from total identification of you with body, mind, sense complex, that
finite entity, limited by time, space and objects
AND by the knowledge of this TRUTH
that you are from the very beginning of this life the Self-evident
Consciousness, giving existence to everything in this universe, from your body,
mind, complex to the whole universe
You know that complete, uninvolved, not
limited by time, space, and objects, thus INFINTE, the very Cause of this
universe.
22. Universal Oneness.
Now
let us count how many I, s are there in this universe. One may say there are as
many as the population on this earth and if any, in other planets. Everyone I is Consciousness, which is not
limited by time, space, or objects. If each I, limits the other I, say in
space, it negates the very truth of consciousness that it is not limited by
space. We saw that space, in fact exits in consciousness. That leads to the conclusion that there can
be only one I. It is the same I, consciousness irrespective of body, mind,
sense complex. The I of you, the I of me, or of anyone else is the same I,
one and the only one. In the vision of that GIVER, all of us,
irrespective of nations on this earth or planets outside, are one and the same,
self-evident, consciousness, eternal without any difference what so ever.
Whatever differences seen are only manmade. If only this truth sinks in all,
how great the life on this earth will be!
The
knowledge you gained out of this exposure is though complete up to the level
that truth of I is, Awareness, Consciousness and not body, mind, sense complex,
this is like knowing the tip of the iceberg. To get the rest of it, one needs
to pursue this with interest and commitment by listening to those who are well
versed in this knowledge and capable of teaching the same to those wanting to
know.
Peace- Peace- Peace
