Jayalalitha passes away: School, Colleges to remain closed for three days in Tamil Nadu
Tamilnadu State government has announced seven days of mourning period and three days holiday for schools and colleges across Tamil Nadu after CM Jayalalithaa passed away late on Monday evening at Apollo hospital, following a cardiac arrest on Sunday.
Jayalalithaa’s body will be taken to her residence, Poes Garden and will be kept at Rajaji Hall for people to pay last respects.
The national flag on all government buildings will be flown at half-mast, said Chief Secretary of state P Rama Mohana Rao in a notification.
“The government of Tamil Nadu announce with profound regret, the demise of Selvi J Jayalalithaa, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at 11.30 PM on Monday, Dec 5, 2016. State Mourning will be observed for seven days from 6.12.16, during which period the national flag on all government buildings will be flown at half-mast. No official entertainment will also be held during this period,” it said.
Union territory of Puducherry has also announced holiday across all government offices and educational institutions tomorrow to mark respect to Jayalalithaa.
Police is ensuring that crowd don’t get close to her residence.
