Airtel postpaid customers to get free data under ‘surprise offer’ starting March 13

Airtel postpaid customers to get free data under ‘surprise offer’ starting March 13

Post Reliance Jio’s announcement of a new Prime membership, competing telcos have been on their toes and are trying to compete with new attractive offers. Recently, Airtel launched a plan starting at Rs 145 offering free 4G data and unlimited voice calls. This was followed by Vodafone and Idea Cellular launching similar plans. While all these offers are for prepaid users only, Airtel has now extended the freebies to postpaid users as well. This comes straight from Airtel’s CEO Gopal Vittal, who in an email to postpaid users revealed a new offer with free data for them.

An email, circulated to Airtel postpaid customers, mentions the recent news of Airtel being declared India’s fastest mobile network. Celebrating this achievement, Airtel has an offer for its postpaid customers which is free data and can be availed starting March 13. Postpaid users would have to login to My Airtel app, through which they will be able to “enjoy this surprise.” There is no mention of how much data one would receive.

The plan seems to be extension of Airtel’s recent ‘Surprise Offer’ for its broadband users. Under the offer, users stand a chance of getting free data on top of their existing subscribed plans, in same cases over 100GB, along with subscription to Airtel’s apps like Wynk Movies. March 13 also marks the occasion of Holi festival and this offer comes in the wake of this celebration as the email reads, “I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your family on the festive occasion of Holi. Go ahead, claim you Airtel Surprise and share the celebrations with your loved ones.” We’ll have to wait for Marh 13 and see how much Airtel can surprise its postpaid users and if it’s enough to be at par with Reliance Jio’s services.

Airtel is certainly revamping its efforts to keep up with Jio’s offers. Jio created a storm in the industry with its free data offers and free calls as well. Even though Jio will end its free offers on March 31, its new Prime membership which is set to go live on April 1 is already creating a stir. The registrations for Jio Prime membership have begun already and it comes with a yearly fee of Rs 99. Jio Prime members will essentially get double benefits of data on normal packages available now. For example, Jio Prime members on a recharge of Rs 303 will get additional 1GB of 4G data daily for 28 days bringing down the total cost to around Rs 10 per day.
