53,000 employees take EPFO membership

JAMSHEDPUR: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has registered 53,600 new members in the state as part of its amnesty scheme, Employees Enrolment Campaign 2017, meant for firms that had not registered their employees under EPFO 1952 on or after April 2009 and were required to become members before June 30, 2017.

Firms and companies who deliberately abstained from taking EPFO membership will face action after the scheme comes to an end today. "This scheme was in effect for three months (January to March) but due to a good response it was extended up till June,"Singh said while addressing a press conference at the Center for Excellence on Thursday.

"We have achieved 70% (53,600 in number) of our target in the state during the drive between January and June this year," additional commissioner of Central Provident Fund V P Singh, said.

He said the zonal office with Jharkhand and Bihar within its command, achieved the target of enrolling 1.86 lakh new members to EPFO during the past six months.

He added that the Central government introduced the amnesty scheme in January to benefit the employees and it was a complete success.

"To make the scheme employee friendly the share of the employee in provident fund is waived off," Singh said.
