Telangana: Mafia uses Gods’ pics to disguise imported drugs using India Post Courier Service
Hyderabad: To avoid security checks, drug racketeers from the Netherlands, Chicago, Germany and the UK use stationery and pictures of gods for packaging narcotics like LSD and MDMA to send them to India.
Excise and enforcement teams have seized a few empty courier envelopes from the possession of A. Piyush, a structural engineer and event manager, who was arrested recently.
After analysing them, the enforcement Special Task Force found that the drug mafia from other countries courier the drugs in ordinary looking parcels that are marked ‘documents’ or ‘stationery’.
An official said that LSD blots, which were seized from Piyush, were attached to a picture of Lord Shiva. “It is a trick used by the drug mafia to mislead security agencies. They are adopting government-run courier services like India Post. So far we have identified that majority of couriers that had drugs coming in from Netherlands, Germany, US and UK reached India through this courier service,” the official said.
NCB zonal director Sinha who visited Telangana state prohibition and excise headquarters on Saturday collected information on how the gangs from foreign countries operate. The NCB has promised the TS government support in its investigations.
The NCB has identified the role of dark web and bitcoins in drug trafficking and is recommending that the Centre should ban such sites. The NCB is also looking into the failure of the intelligence in identifying couriers carrying drugs.
