obs To Ex-Servicemen In Tourism Sector: Registration On Govt Portal Soon
New Delhi: The Sun Temple and the Ratnagiri Monuments in Odisha are soon to have ex-servicemen as guides, taxi drivers and security guides.
The Central government will soon launch a portal that will help ex-servicemen getting employment in the tourism sector and they will be posted at historical monuments across the country.
The portal will help the ex-servicemen keeping contact with the industry and know about the different recruitment, a senior official said.
Tourism Secretary Rashmi Verma said ex-servicemen retire early and they have credibility and are trusted by tourists. They can be guides, taxi drivers and security guides,” she said.
Ex-servicemen interested in such jobs can register their names and all the required details on the portal following which the industry can post its requirements accordingly and the ministry of tourism will match the two.
The ministry is also planning to provide accreditation to online travel agency like Oyo Rooms, Air B&B and other such portals to bring them within the framework of the ministry, Verma said
Officials say that since most tourists make their travel itinerary digitally, it is necessary to standardise the various aggregators online.
The minister also revealed that ‘Adopt a Heritage’ project launched by the government in September this year has received huge response. The project aims to get private players to develop and maintain heritage sites.
As of now, Verma said, they have received 57 responses and 14 monuments have been chosen by seven entities who have shown interest.
