Maharashtra State Transport Staff (MSRTC) On strike From Oct 17

Maharashtra State Transport Staff (MSRTC) On strike From Oct 17

With private bus operators fleecing passengers by cashing in on the demand during the festive season, the strike threat by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees from October 17 is bound to cause hardship and inconvenience to many hapless residents.
Bearing in mind the Diwali rush, transport minister Diwakar Raote has appealed to the MSRTC body to call off the proposed strike. Sandeep Shinde of Maharashtra State Transport Workers Union said that their long-pending demands have long fallen on deaf ears and they are supported by Maharashtra ST Workers Congress.
“Our demands include implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission and 25 per cent interim hike till the revised salary contract is made,” the union leader said. The state currently operates 17,000 buses across the state and has 1.07 lakh MSRTC employees.
Raote said, “The MSRTC workers have the right to raise their demands but the industrial court as well as the labour court have clearly stated that the strike cannot be held from October 17 due to rush of passengers. Yet, they have decided to go on strike. I have appealed to the workers to call off the strike.”
