Southern Railway launches Mobile App. for booking paperless unreserved tickets
As a part of ''OPERATION 5 Mts.'' of Hon'ble Minister of Railways, on 14th April, Southern Railway will launch the facility for booking paperless tickets for unreserved travel, season tickets and platform tickets using your mobile phones. Booking can be done on any Smart Phone and I Phone provided with Internet and GPS connectivity. Passengers can download the App. called ''utsonmobile'' on Google Play store as well as Apple Store and install and open this App., duly registering their details like any other App. Payments can be made using R-wallet, Railways' own exclusive e-payment wallet which is made available free with no service charges. R-wallet can be topped up at any Booking Office counter or on Internet through www.irctc.co.in The paperless UTS ticketing on Mobile facility is available for travel from stations of Southern Railway from 14th April. It was earlier available at Chennai suburban area only. This service is expected to benefit over 2 million passengers of unreserved tickets on Southern Railway everyday. With this facility, the customers, particularly in the morning and evening rush hours, can say goodbye to wasting upto 5-30 mts. at Booking Office Counters. Tickets can now be booked from places upto 5 kms. from the railway station and the booked tickets are automatically downloaded on the mobile phones, which will serve as Authority to Travel. No print outs are necessary. This ticket cannot be transferred from phone to phone as SMS or otherwise.
Using a facility called 'geo-fencing', Railways have prevented booking mobile tickets in railway premises including Platforms and on trains. This helps to prevent ticketless travellers from booking tickets when they see ticket checking staff on trains or station premises.
This new facility is expected to provide a major convenience to Railways' unreserved customers who make up more than 91% of the total passengers carried annually. Railways also provide a 24 hour help desk at No.044-25351621 and E-Mail at utsonmobile_che@cris.org.in for queries related to paperless ticket booking and its payments. Self help guide assistance is available at website utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in.
