Railway Employees Threaten To Revive Strike Call
he National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) have in a meeting decided to pressurise the government to accept their pending demands failing which they would launch a stir.
In the meeting, it was also decided that if the government failed to find a solution they may revive the pending call of striking work.
The meeting demanded that the income tax limit of the running staff should be increased.
J G Mahurkar, general secretary of WRMS and NFIR ‘s vice president said the meeting also demanded that cooking facility in rest houses should be provided for the ticket checking staff. Besides the construction of a running room at Mumbai-Central should be expedited.
NFIR demanded that direct recruitment for signal maintainer grade-ll to be discontinued. However, the government can introduce direct recruitment quota signal maintainer grade-I. The Union leader demanded that remaining 85% vacancies in signal maintainer grade 1 should be filled by promotion. Also, the educational qualification of direct recruiters for signal maintainer grade I level should be BSc.
Mahur said that the NFIR has continued agitations against NPS and other anti-worker policies of the government and has held protest demonstrations on all zonal offices. NFIR ‘s struggle for ensuring guaranteed pension and abolition of NPS in the railways is continued even today while three meetings so far have been held with the railway minister.
